Horse Meat Disco @ Fuji Rock 08/01/2010

Horse Meat Disco @ Fuji Rock, Japan
From their humble start in a South London basement, Horse Meat Disco
have grown into one of the partying-est parties at the party…
Made up of James Hillard & Jim Stanton, these two quickly picked up
DJs Filthy Luka and Severino to round out their quartet, as they play
the rarest of rare disco, italo, punk funk, and other odities from the
70s & 80s. Describing their regular club night as the queer party
for everyone; Homos and Heteros, club kids, bears, fashionistas,
naturists, guerilla drag queens and ladies who munch is a sure way to
get a motley crew in attendance. As Norwegian DJ Prins Thomas said of
their parties when guesting, “I think deep down I’m probably a gay black
man dancing up inside Paradise Garage in the 70s.”
Legendary status amongst the gay club scene was achieved within minutes
of the inception of the night five odd years back, and a mix album hit
the streets in 2009. Their new mix of some of these rare grooves Horse
Meat Disco II is due out this month. A preview of the album is below,
but it’s this youtube clip that shows their funkier side, and has me
thinking I might just run into our resident funkster Don Coglione Sunday
night.
Plenty of guest DJs have made their way behind the decks at HMD nights,
most notably for Fujirockers this year being LCD Soundsystem frontman
James Murphy, who will be doing something on the White Stage earlier in
the evening. Maybe another guest spot? There will be room on stage, with
gigs back home on the same weekend as Fuji Rock, I imagine that only
two of the four will make it here. I’m laying odds on those two being
Hillard & Stanton.
With these guys scheduled to come somewhere colse to closing out the
fest in the Red Marquee come the Sunday night, you’d best save a little
of yourself for a flamboyant finish!
