Kanaku Y El Tigre’s Studio Wizardry On Display in Quema Quema Quema Video

kanaku3Lima’s Kanaku Y El Tigre write beautiful music that is significantly enhanced by their ability to create unique sounds using just about anything they have available. In the new video for “Quema Quema Quema,” the band peels back the layers of the title track of their new album, employing esoteric toy synthesizers, found percussion and a haunting slide guitar to assemble a killer piece of music. Watching the way these elements interact only enhances our appreciation for a killer band.

Quema Quema Quema is out now on CD, vinyl, and digital formats, and can be ordered via online retailers and the strut store.

Boom! Direct From Peru’s Dancefloors…

TGM005“Our music is dark and psychedelic but it also has that party spirit.”Dengue Dengue Dengue

We’re heading back to the melting pot of Peru’s capital Lima as we join forces with the excellent Tiger’s Milk label for a new compilation, Peru Boom! Guided by the roots of chicha and Peruvian cumbia and inspired by Western dubstep, techno, grime and rave, a whole new generation of producers have created their own fresh new tropical bass fusions which have taken over the city and have united communities.

“When we started parties four years ago,” explains Rafael Pereira of Dengue Dengue Dengue, “we’d get people from all over Lima: the white guy, the back guy, the poor guy, the rich guy. Now there are many parties and everyone goes to their own place in different neighbourhoods.” Peru Boom! gives the wider world the first chance to sample this unique scene with tracks from DJ Chakruna, Deltatron, Tribilin Sound, Dengue Dengue Dengue and more.

The album is available now via Tigers Milk / Strut Records on CD, LP, & digital formats. Stream Rolovo’s “Outropical” below.

Watch Kanaku Y El Tigre Perform ‘Pulpos’ Live In Their Studio

kanaku3 Kanaku Y El Tigre are experts at using the recording studio as an instrument. Their records are densely layered, to the point that discerning the players or instruments responsible for specific sounds can become a pleasant challenge. This live video, recorded at Kanaku Studios in Lima pulls back the curtain on some of the mystery. Performing with precision, the band delivers a flawless rendition of the song ‘Pulpos’ from the upcoming album Quema Quema Quema.

Quema Quema Quema is out June 15th on Strut / Tiger’s Milk. Pre-orders are available now on iTunes and the Strut Store.

View Peru Through The Eyes Of Young Skaters In Kanaku Y El Tigre’s New Video

Kanaku Y El Tigre’s new single “Si Te Mueres Mañana” is a life-affirming anthem with the message “If you die tomorrow, make sure you you’ve done everything you ever wanted.” After watching the song’s gorgeously-shot video (which premiered today on The Wall Street Journal), we might have to add skateboarding through the hills of Lima, Peru to the list of things to do before we die.

“Si Te Mueres Mañana” appears on Kanaku Y El Tigre’s forthcoming album Quema Quema Quema, which is the first internationally-released project from the Peruvian duo of Nico Saba and Bruno Bellatin. With a relaxed sound that bridges folk, indie rock, psychedelic music and electronics, the album is a perfect soundtrack to the spring. Get To Know Peruvian Psychedelic Folk Collective Kanaku Y El Tigre

kanaku3 Strut in association with Tiger’s Milk proudly present the latest artist signing to the label: Lima, Peru’s Kanaku Y El Tigre.

The band’s forthcoming album Quema Quema Quema (meaning ‘Burn Burn Burn’ in Spanish) is the product of two years honing the Kanaku sound at the band’s Lima studio HQ and the result is a record which is feverish in intensity and which screams with joy and cries for help in the same breath. The album is a testament to their new found approach with its euphoric, unapologetically feel-good hooks littered with electronic jitters, ghostly delays, serene Hawaiian slide guitars and a chorus of other-wordly vocal harmonies.

Take a look at a video for the track “Bubucelas,” featuring the album’s incredible hand-painted cover art, below. You can also download “Bubucelas” for free.

Get To Know Our Friends Tiger’s Milk Records

It’s our pleasure to introduce a new label that we’re really excited about. Tiger’s Milk Records is the brain child of the founders of Ceviche, a much lauded Peruvian restaurant based in London’s Soho. As deep connoisseurs of Peruvian culture, Tiger’s Milk Records was conceived as a means of sharing Peru’s rich and multi-faceted music, both past and present.

Peru Maravilloso

The label’s debut full-length release will be a collection entitled Peru Maravilloso. Painstakingly researched to uncover a host of rare chicha, salsa, rock, psych and one-off fusions, the album was compiled by Ceviche boss Martin Morales along with Duncan Ballantyne (Soundway Records, Far Out, Naive) and Andres Tapia (of Peru’s Resychled Records). Whether you’re completely new to the music or a hardy collector, it’s an incredible snapshot of one of the most vibrant eras in Peruvian music history.

Peru Maravilloso will be out November 12th on Tiger’s Milk, in association with Strut. You can stream one of the tracks from the collection,  “Mambo De Machaguay” by Lucho Neves, below.
